Homework

This term we will be making some changes to our homework organisation. Homework will be given out EVERY TWO WEEKS – giving you 2 whole weeks to complete your tasks.

Your homework expectations are:
• Reading EACH NIGHT. This may be books, newspapers or magazines. I encourage you to practice reading aloud to brothers and sisters, and parents.
• Working with personal spelling lists. These lists will be based on words that come from your work – words you have trouble spelling in your writing or words you come across in your reading. Choose a spelling activity from the chart in your homework books to complete each fortnight.
• HOMEWORK CONTRACTS: This is a new homework format for our class. It is an A3 sheet and it includes; English, Maths, Science and other subjects. Homework contracts are designed to give you a basis for some of the work you will experience next year whether that is moving into Grade 5 or 6 or Year 7. As this format of homework may be more than many of you are used to I have extended the due date to every two weeks. If you have any difficulties or problems – come and see me.
I have also given everyone a log-in for www.studyladder.com
This is a great website which lets you practice maths and literacy skills through games and activities. You can log-in from home or school.

On Mondays we will go through the tasks on the homework contract and stick these in your homework books. This is a good opportunity to ask me any questions about your homework, but you can also ask me during the week if you get stuck. Remember, you have 2 weeks to clear up any confusion with me – DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE!

Last term we talked about what happens if students don’t complete their homework or have it ready to hand in. As a class we decided that these students would move down a step on the ladder and would have to complete their homework during recess or lunchtime. This will be the same consequence this term, however remember there is opportunity to move up the ladder for great work and organisation.
